Even if you manage to gain some visibility, the rewards from monetization often fall short of supporting your efforts.

A steady income stream can feel more like a distant dream than an achievable goal.

Make My Own TV Station – Start My Own TV Channel

Make My Own TV Station – Start My Own TV Channel

a-hand-holding-a-television-remote-with-a-tv-at-the-back

Table of Contents

If you or your company are thinking of making your own TV station then there are some preliminary steps you need to take to get started. You will need to begin by asking yourself some basic questions.

Questions to Ask When Starting A TV Channel

  1. What type of station will this be? Entertainment, NEWS, religious?
  2. What will be my distribution platform? Satellite, Cable, or Internet?
  3. Will you be making your own video content? or will you purchase content? You might do some of both.
  4. Will this be a 24/7 channel?
  5. Will you need the ability to broadcast live? If you need the ability to broadcast live, will this be from inside your studio or outside your studio? This is important because if you are a news team and you want the ability to broadcast live then you would need to plan in advance for a way to deliver your live feed from the field. Then once the signal is delivered live to your studio it must still be put through a video server to add on-screen graphics overlays and sent out live to your satellite or cable operator.

All of the above steps may seem elementary, but you still need to take the time to write them down and discuss them with your team or board of directors. As the saying goes, “the devil is in the details,” and your planning stages should be comprehensive.

Next you need to decide on a studio location. Or decide where you will be setting up your equipment. There is no need to get an extravagant office downtown. That is the beauty of TV, you only show what you want your viewers to see.

Many of my clients have setup studios in their basement or in their own homes to save money and time. If you are just re-broadcasting prerecorded content then you really do not need a very large space at all. In fact, you could do it from a closet.

Develop your work flow. Once you have the space you need, then it is time to contemplate what type of equipment you will need.

3 Factors That You Need To Consider

If you are starting a news station then you need to take into consideration several elements.

One your filming element. What type of cameras do you need, how many cameras for multiple angles, what type of video server and graphics overlay you need (for stock quotes, scrolling headlines and so forth), virtual studio equipment and so on.

Two, you need to consider the sets you will be filming on. You need to decide how many sets, what type of news desks, lighting and background. You will also need to decide the type of image you want your channel to portray and choose the right sets to do so.

Three, you need to configure a live feed from the field and a live feed from your studio to the satellite up link or cable operator.

As you can see, putting together a TV station is a combination of several elements, too many to be listed in just this short article. Another element you will need to consider is obtaining a carriage agreement with a satellite or cable operator. This in itself can be a task that can take up time and resources.

Monetization Techniques For Your Internet TV Network

Monetization Techniques For Your Internet TV Network

forefinger-in-the-keyboard-with-monetize-key

Credibility and Status = Unmeasurable Monetization

I will start with the least known monetization benefits of having your own Internet TV network.
Let’s talk about the most hidden monetization effect. The fact that you have an Internet TV network on platforms such as ROKU, Amazon FireTV, iPhone, Apple TV etc… gives you and your organization “credibility” and “status”. Few people on this planet can boast they have their own network.

The benefit of this alone is hard to measure because it’s not always obvious that was the reason someone decided to do business with your company. Whenever people are deciding to do business with your business, deciding if your church is the right church for them, deciding to list their house with your real estate company……many things weigh into those decisions including how they feel about the credibility and status of your organization. So keep in mind that just having your Online Network alone can generate in-direct revenue.

Digital Ad Injection

AKA Dynamic Ad Insertion is something that is new to the digital landscape. When I say “new” I do not mean that it started yesterday, but that the technology is not yet perfected. It is an ongoing process to evolve and perfect. However, it is far enough a long that we can do two critical steps;

  1. Inject paid advertisers adverts
  2. Track the number of viewers per ad

Both of these steps allow a total to be calculated monthly so that your channel can get a check every month.

This makes your goal obvious: Create or obtain great content people want to see and promote it. In other words, build your content and viewership. That is, of course, the name of the game for any TV network, but this is definitely the core concept of success when it comes to getting big advertising checks.

To thrive in the Internet TV world you the Content Owner, TV Broadcaster and/or OTT Operator, need to optimize ad revenues and make the most of the latest shifts in technology that are available today in order to increase monetization potential. This is why you should require a platform that can precisely target the right audience and accurately insert relevant ads across connected TV channels and multiple screens.

The components of the ad injection are:

1. Dynamic Ad Insertion – Our solutions make sure that the right ad is ready to play every time there is an ad break and can seamlessly scale to television-sized audiences.
2. Multiple Triggers – you the broadcaster can trigger the ads, or you can pick one of our algorithms that automatically inserts them for maximum revenue potential (example 16 mins of ad breaks per hour)
3. Guaranteed Ad views – Even if the stream is paused the ad is not skipped when the stream resumes.

All of these components work together to create a nice revenue stream for your channel.

4. Subscription Model

 –

The obvious money maker for online TV is charging a subscription fee. This is a big money maker especially if you have a lot of content.

Netflix is making BILLIONS (not millions) from this subscription based method. However, of course they have a ton of content so this subscription model makes sense for them.

You can pay for a day, month, quarterly or annually. You can offer free trials and a host of other options to make revenue easier to generate.

For smaller broadcasters, subscriptions make a lot of sense if your audience is niche. For example, if you specialize in a particular content geared to a language other than English or other small niches like ball room dancing etc….

Subscriptions excel in these type of situations because the audience is eager to obtain content that is not catered to in today’s mass media.

Another model that works well is to charge a subscription fee for an ad-free version of your network. This is a common “up-sell” for many networks. This allows you to leverage both ads and subscriptions.

YouTube Monetization – First and foremost, the #1 reason our customers want to acquire their own internet TV network is so that it can be “self branded”. In other words, it has nothing to do with YouTube (Facebook or any other 3rd party) and when promoting your channel this keeps your network looking professional. However, there are more critical reasons why it’s important to have your own network and not rely on 3rd parties such as “YouTube”.

1. For the most part it is difficult to make money off of your YouTube videos. That does NOT mean that there are no YouTubers making good money. There are some, but for the majority it is a known fact that channel creators (even those with hundreds of thousands even millions of views) struggle to make even a hundred dollars in a month. YouTube is not in the business for the benefit of the content creators but rather for the benefit of themselves.

2. Youtube now “censors” content they don’t like. This means you are no longer in control of your network. This is important to understand because they censor content they deem “controversial”. However they define what “controversial” is. They are now changing algorithms to hide videos and NOT notifying your subscribers (on new video posts and live broadcasts) for groups that have opposing political positions of YouTube (owned by google) shareholders.

3. YouTube has new rules that make it difficult for new channels to monetize any content.

The fact is, you have absolutely no control over your subscriber base when you’re on YouTube. You don’t have their names, you don’t have their email addresses, you can’t take them to another platform.

That’s a huge issue. This means you can’t run email campaigns or promos, and that YouTube could shut your channel down (as they are known to do without giving a reason) without a given notice. YouTube is built to make YouTube money and not to make the broadcaster money. In fact, it’s built to enslave you to their system. Building a YouTube audience is a waste of time and money unless it is to promote your other platforms, which is where you make your real money.

YouTube may have some professional videos on their platform, but it is NOT a professional platform. When you have your own online network you can make hundreds even thousands of times more money than you can on Youtube controlling your own advertising or subscriptions.

I am not saying YouTube does not have its place, but it is built with the idea for sharing videos and not monetizing them.

YouTube has its place and like I said before, there are some earning money on the platform. However, the majority of serious YouTubers earn next to nothing.

Plus at a moments notice YouTube can cancel, censor or demonetize your channel (or videos) so that your viewers can not find it in a search or a related video. Same thing is occurring with Facebook live broadcasts….You can NOT monetize them and you can be shut off for breaking one of many many rules they have.

Facebook and YouTube should only be used in order to support your main Independence channel. That is the purpose of using these social platforms, to SUPPORT your business not to use them AS YOUR business.

Insuring against a Facebook or YouTube decision they know longer like you, if your channel is independent they cant SHUT you down.

How to Monetize Your Video Content?

How to Monetize Your Video Content

Creating quality video content is a mountain of work.

First, there’s coming up with original content. Then there’s writing a solid script, filming, recording audio, re-recording because someone decided to mow their lawn in the middle of your take, creating thumbnails, editing it all together into a snappy, informative, and entertaining video, and then compiling, gazing forlornly out at the sky, uploading, responding to comments…

I’m getting a bit weary just thinking about it…

Expecting to make a little bit of money off of all your hard work is nothing to be ashamed of. Figuring out how to make money from your videos is another mountain to climb all on its own.

To aid you in your ascent up that mountain, we’ve mapped the route ahead with a brief rundown on methods for monetizing video content.

4 Methods To Monetize Your Video Content

Monetization Method #1: Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate advertising is one of the most common methods for turning your videos into dollar signs. There are tons of affiliate programs out there, but one of the most popular to setup is the Amazon Associates program.

Amazon isn’t the only game in town, there are tons of affiliate programs out there. Finding the right one for your brand and audience might take a bit of time, but you can always just plug into Google the name of the product you think would fit your audience well along with the word “affiliate”.

Monetization Method #2: Ad Revenue

Media sharing sites like YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch all have opportunities for leveraging your community of viewers to make some cash off the ads they watch. YouTube and Twitch.tv both have live-streaming capabilities that allow you to charge monthly subscriptions to your audience to bring in some money outside of advertising as well.

YouTube’s requirements for joining its YouTube Partner Program have recently become a little more difficult to meet. Similarly, Twitch requires that you meet specific requirements to earn ad revenue and to get access to their subscription system.

Getting your viewership to the levels needed to make money this way can take some time.

Monetization Method #3: Crowdfunding

Asking your audience to chip in some money from time to time is a possible avenue for generating revenue from your video content. Services like Patreon are particularly popular as they are set up as a monthly payment, for which you can create multiple tiers with special offers to entice your audience to break open their wallets for you.

There’s also Kickstarter, which allows you to create a campaign to receive funding for specific projects such as creating a video that indisputably proves kidney beans are inferior to black beans once and for all.

Monetization Method #4: Create Your Own Network

Launching your own branded channel allows you to expand your audience beyond the limits of YouTube into the living rooms of new viewers. Going OTT opens up new monetization options:

Different Monetization Options with OTT

A: Ad Injection

Automated ad injection uses AI to match relevant ad content to your channel’s audience. Since most of your audience is watching your content on their TV sets, you get paid more money per view. The more your audience grows, the more ad revenue you earn automatically.

B: Subscriptions

You can also monetize your videos by going the Netflix route and charging a monthly subscription for access to your growing collection of video content.

C: Pay Per View

If subscriptions aren’t your style, allow your audience to pay for your content one video at a time by using a pay-per-view monetization model.

D: All of the Above

Or you can even select the answer “D” and do all of the above. Going OTT gives you more control over your channel and its monetization.

How to Monetize Your Video Collection?

How to Monetize Your Video Collection?

monetizing-word-in-the-laptop

If you’re a video creator tired of fighting YouTube’s and Twitch’s monetization rules, or if you’ve found your videos being demonetized, then it may be time to take your catalog into your own hands. Content like yours doesn’t have to be constantly fighting the algorithms for a place on the “Up Next” sidebar when you can deliver videos straight to your viewers’ phones, laptops, or living rooms through your own branded channel.

By 2019, the number of connected TVs and streaming devices in households exceeded 1 billion. More than 50% of the U.S. population has a TV-connected device in their homes like a Firestick, Roku, Apple TV, or Smart TV. Because of the variety of places viewers can get the content they want, wherever they want it, it’s even more important for you to stop relying on the major streaming platforms for distribution and monetization.

Partners like TV Startup are helping creators deliver their videos on demand across the most popular platforms, devices, and social media sites and since it’s your own channel, you get to keep more of the revenue the channel generates.

Top Three Ways TV Startup Monetizes Your Branded Channel

Subscription Fees

Graduate School of Stanford Business reported that subscription business models are growing 100% each year and further predicting that everything we buy in the future will come with a monthly plan.

But if the only subscription your content gets is from smashing a button on YouTube, then you are losing up to 45% of your potential revenue from ads.

Through your own Video On Demand Channel, you can generate and earn more revenue by following the successful models of Netflix and Disney+ by setting a subscription fee your audience is willing to pay to keep your content coming to them.

Ad-Injection Revenue

If the subscription model isn’t the right fit for your content and your audience, then including non-intrusive overlays of ads within the video is an excellent way to keep your content free while still generating revenue.

Earlier this year, Google revealed YouTube is a $15 billion-a-year-business. That’s a lot of money made off other people’s work! Injecting ads into videos is not unique to YouTube and TV Startup offers this same effective business model to keep your content free while giving you more of the revenue share.

Ad Sales and Creation

Another option to keep your content free is by offering pre-roll and mid-roll advertisements which are effective ways to create revenue while keeping your content free of banner ads. Since it’s your channel, you have the opportunity to create and sell ads to companies with whom you want to specifically align your brand.

TvStartup, can effectively deliver targeted advertisements before or during your videos while giving you more say with who you are sharing your audience with.

As easy as TvStartup makes it to reach the estimated 63 million cord-cutters who are now only reachable through connected TV and other digital channels, you can launch your video collection to millions of people worldwide.

You no longer need to rely on the status quo of video streaming to promote your work when you can let TvStartup help you reach audiences around the world the same way they have helped numerous independent video creators, artists, businesses, churches, and more.

How to Monetize an Internet TV Channel?

How to Monetize an Internet TV Channel?

Statistics show that in the next 10 years, the video streaming market is set to reach $241 billion.

It’s needless to say that despite the major global lockdown in the previous couple of years, the TV industry is thriving and monetization methods, especially SVOD, are booming at the moment.

So, as a TV Network owner who wants to maximize profits while ensuring a great user experience, you must be wondering, “Which monetization method would be the best for my TV network?”

We at TvStartup understand what you’re looking for. That’s why we’ve brought you priceless information about the top monetization methods of the TV industry. Soon, you’ll be able to pick the best options for your TV Network and reach all the goals you’ve laid out. Let’s get started right away.

Ad-Based Monetization: Great for Internet TV Channels

Most internet-based, free-to-use, TV channels are making millions of dollars in revenue through their “Watch Unlimited Content for FREE” model. Whether they’re original TV channels, video game streaming channels, or even online news channels, ad-based monetization works like a charm for them.

Internet ad-based revenue is generated through banner and post ads, as well as pop-up ads, which might be triggered as a result of clicking or using certain features of a website. Meaning, if the right ad strategy and placement are used, your TV channel can earn a fortune.

So, if you want to offer free content to your audience and attract more interested viewers while still having a profitable channel, ad-based monetization makes it very possible.

It is one of the best monetization techniques for internet TV channels, and it will help your TV network reach the top of the industry. Dynamic ad insertion can be integrated from any ad provider to automatically place pre-roll, mid, or post-roll ads into your internet TV channel. You can also insert ads directly from your own sponsors by selling time slots for ad placements to advertisers yourself.

internet-on-tv-monetization-with-couple

Subscription-Based Monetization: Perfect for VOD TV Networks

Without a doubt, for video-on-demand TV networks, subscription-based monetization is the best. This is because a channel that has a library of content, capable of being accessed at any time, requires a monetization model that ensures maximum profit while maintaining a wonderful experience for the users.

In short, users won’t have to encounter advertisements or disruptions in their streaming.

Having a monthly, weekly, or even yearly subscription plan based on multiple tiers makes this possible. Through this model, any video-on-demand TV network will thrive, given that it offers high-quality content that an audience would love to see.

The perfect examples of how subscription monetization works can easily be seen through Netflix, Hulu, HBO, etc. So, take inspiration from these industry giants and use it in your own VOD-based TV network.

Pay-Per-View Monetization: Amazing for Private Events

Pay-Per-View (PPV) monetization is another amazing method that you can use for your TV network. PPV is when a viewer must pay a fee to get access to your content, which they can then watch as a live stream or save for later viewing during their own leisure time.

This monetization method has worked wonders for many TV networks, especially in the education and sports sectors.

Any content that you think will attract a large audience who would be willing to pay to access, can be setup as PPV. Just remember that delivering a great viewing experience is crucial for PPV events to succeed.

Which Monetization Method Should Your TV Network Use?

With so many options available for the monetization of your TV network, you might be confused as to which one would be the best for you to achieve success in the industry. Well, after building thousands of channels here at TVStartup, we can tell you that you no longer have to choose.

You should choose an OTT provider who offers a monetization model that simultaneously utilizes ads, subscriptions, and pay-per-view options. Having every option will allow you to make sure that your TV channel is making its maximum profit, while also delivering a high-quality viewing experience for your audience members.

This means you can have most of your content be free to your audience. With this free content, you will be running automated ad injections to produce profit.

The content should be what you use to captivate your audience and get them “hooked.” If you can accomplish this, then you can start charging subscriptions for other categories in your video library. Think of these categories as your premium content that only loyal fans can access. Lastly, any live or special events you wish to promote can be categorized as your PPV videos.

Having all these options not only eliminates the stress of choosing between the three, but it also allows you to be paid by all three simultaneously.

Also, these are just the three major monetization options– the possibilities are truly endless if you’re committed to creating a high-quality TV network. Always think outside of the box if you want to take your channel even further, but trust us, having these three tools already puts you ahead of the competition.

Conclusion

The right monetization method or a combination of methods can make your TV network reach new heights. You shouldn’t have to choose between running ads, charging subscription fees, or hosting pay-per-view events. Like in life, you should always have multiple options when it comes to making money. Ensure that your channel can reach its maximum profit by choosing a software that allows you to fully and directly monetize your content. You’ll be glad you did.

How to Create a Video Streaming Site Similar to Netflix

How to Create a Video Streaming Site Similar to Netflix?

Netflix is renowned globally for its visually appealing and user-friendly platform, which has successfully revolutionized the way video content subscriptions are sold. Imagine harnessing a similar approach with your video content, allowing you to focus on creating material specifically for your audience while having the autonomy to monetize it effectively.

This concept isn’t just a fanciful dream; it’s a tangible reality. By adopting Netflix’s business strategy, you can generate income through the video content you are passionate about creating.

Netflix has established a vast enterprise using a simple yet effective business model, a strategy that you too can emulate, especially if your focus is on streaming mainly anime content. In this blog post, I will guide you through launching your own streaming service, similar to Netflix, with a focus on streaming development. This endeavor is possible even for those without previous experience in creating websites or apps.

I’ll delve into the essentials of incorporating video and streaming capabilities into your platform, developing a video streaming mode that engages your audience, and the steps to build a streaming video app. Additionally, I’ll discuss how to leverage an existing video stream and integrate features like playing offline video, making your service versatile and user-friendly.

What You'll Discover in Streaming Development:

  • The Four Key Elements of Netflix’s Revenue Model for a Video Streaming App.

  • How to Build Your Own Version of Netflix in a Few Easy Steps Using Live Streaming Apps
  • Why Their Business Model is Effective for All Producers Using a Live Video Streaming App.

The Business Model of Netflix for Audio and Video Contents

Netflix has achieved remarkable success, with a company valuation exceeding 100 billion dollars and a subscriber base of over 100 million. They have seamlessly integrated into the daily lives of millions globally. What drives this success? Key factors include their expertise in live video streaming apps, availability on platforms like the Google Play Store, the utilization of in-app purchases, and their dedicated video streaming app Android and iOS video streaming apps.

1. Subscription Models in Streaming Services

Users can effortlessly  create through their website, which is integrated with the built streaming video app.

They Receive a Free Trial for Streaming Content

They are charged a flat monthly rate for using their own streaming app.

As long as they are satisfied, they continue paying, guided by video analytics.

Netflix has established a reliable revenue stream through this model, enabling it to scale up continuously. This approach allows them to

provide their services at affordable monthly rates to users.

The reason? It enables Netflix to focus on expansion rather than chasing renewals from customers and their contracts. This strategy is pivotal for a video streaming service, especially when leveraging mobile apps.

By choosing to create a video streaming app, they have effectively positioned themselves within the streaming service market, making the most of video streaming platforms.

This combination of factors results in a low attrition rate for Netflix, with only around 9% of subscribers canceling each year, effectively keeping their customers highly engaged with their platform. Such success underscores their prominence in the video streaming app marketplace, particularly with their iOS video streaming app, solidifying their position as a leading online entertainment streaming platform.

2. Effortless Accessibility on a Video Streaming Platform

Video Streaming sites similar to Netflix are globally accessible, allowing users from almost anywhere in the world to connect at any time, independent of regional cable or satellite services. Their existing video streaming application can be accessed via the internet in numerous countries. Additionally, their on-demand content model means viewers aren’t constrained by a broadcast schedule, contributing significantly to their video streaming success. This approach allows for seamless access to various video files at the user’s convenience.

3. Blending Original and Acquired Content in Create Video Streaming App

There are multiple livestreaming platforms, however, the content produced by this platform generates significant buzz, leading to an ever-increasing number of subscribers eager to explore their new offerings. This consistent release of fresh content is what maintains viewer engagement, keeping them returning for more. This model exemplifies the effectiveness of on-demand streaming, particularly on mobile devices. By building a video streaming app similar in approach, developers can tap into this successful strategy. How do I create a live streaming platform?

Creating a live streaming platform starts with defining your niche and audience, catering to specific markets like gaming, education, or entertainment. Choose the right technology: Select a robust content delivery network (CDN) for smooth streaming and scalability, and the appropriate streaming protocols like RTMP or HLS for latency and compatibility. Development options range from custom development, offering more control but requiring significant resources, to using existing streaming solutions, prioritizing user-friendliness, easy navigation, and interactive features. Incorporate essential features such as chat, comments, viewer analytics, and monetization options, ensuring mobile compatibility due to a significant portion of users streaming from mobile devices.

Focus on user experience with a seamless, clean, and intuitive interface. Legal compliance with broadcasting and copyright laws is crucial, as is implementing robust security measures like encryption and secure login procedures. Thoroughly test the platform for both technical performance and user experience before launching, alongside a marketing strategy to attract users and engage with the audience through various channels. Continuously monitor, update, and improve the platform, balancing technical proficiency, user-centric design, and continuous improvement based on user feedback and market trends in this complex but rewarding endeavor.

Can I make my own streaming app platform?

Creating your own streaming app is quite straightforward. First, decide what type of content you want to stream, like movies or live sports. Then, learn a bit about streaming technology, like content delivery networks, to ensure smooth playback. You can build your app from scratch or use an existing platform as a base. Ensure to include important features like user profiles and search functions, and design the app to be easy to use on both phones and computers. Remember to follow legal guidelines for your content. Before launching, test the app to make sure it works well. Then, promote your app to attract viewers. Keep improving the app based on the feedback you receive. With some effort and attention to these steps, you can successfully launch your own streaming app.

How much does it cost to create a video streaming platform?

Building a video streaming platform, particularly a live-streaming video app, encompasses various cost components, each varying based on the specific requirements and features desired. In the realm of live stream technology, hosting, and bandwidth are crucial and costly, especially given the substantial data demands of video streaming. Costs here increase with the number of viewers and the desired streaming quality. Utilizing a Content Delivery Network (CDN) is essential for effective and efficient global content delivery, impacting the cost based on data transfer and reach. For platforms featuring licensed content, content licensing fees can significantly vary. Furthermore, implementing robust security measures and Digital Rights Management (DRM) is vital to safeguard your content and users, adding another dimension to the cost.
